Welcome to the Akasaka Skating Club where we encourage the instruction, practice, enjoyment and advancement of our members in all aspects of skating in accordance with the Rules, Policies and Procedures of Skate Canada.
We offer pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, Star Prep, and StarSkate, programs to the youth in Grande Cache.
Pre CanSkate
This program is for first time or beginner skaters. Introduction of basic movement on ice through fun, play-orientated sessions. This is the perfect program for young beginner skaters! To make learning to skate for the first time a pleasant and satisfying experience, coaches emphasize participation focusing on fun and continuous movement. Young skaters are encouraged to learn proper posture, and the correct methods of pushing, gliding, stopping, turning, jumping and spinning.REGISTER HERE
CanSkate
CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for kids that have completed the PreCanSkate program or equivalent. CanSkate is a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Your child will earn badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental skating skills. Skaters progress at their own rate through active sessions that utilize teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. CanSkate is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada Skating programs.

Star Prep
Star Prep skaters are part of the CanSkate learn to skate program. Working on the higher stages of balance, control and agility these skaters are learning more advanced skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by a NCCP certified professional coach. These lessons are made to help transition the skaters out of CanSkate and prepare the skaters to advance into the StarSkate program.

STARSkate
STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skills, free skate and artistic skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Assessments through a nationally standardized assessment system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.REGISTER HERE

About Us
The Akasaka Figure Skating club is a non-profit volunteer organization located in Grande Cache, Alberta - providing the development and opportunity for all skaters to progress.
Our Club is run out of the Grande Cache Recreation Centre by a volunteer board of directors.
