Skate Canada Fees

All skaters must be members of Skate Canada. This involves an annual fee as set by Skate Canada. The 2023/24 Fee is set at $60.00. Your membership is valid September 1st - August 31st every year. The fee will automatically be added into your total when you register for the 2023/24 skating year.

Registration fees for each program can be found on our Registration Page.

Semi-Private and Private Lesson

All STARSkate registrants follow by the STAR Stream Assessment model and you are agreeing to incur the cost of Junior/Intermediate/Senior STARSkate lessons provided to your STARSkate by individually contracted Professional Coach(es) within Akasaka Figure Skating Club. These Lessons are invoiced privately by each contactor separate from Registration Fees charged by AFSC.

Testing & Assessments

If you have been contacted by a Coach to indicate that your skater is being tested for a STAR skills, free skate (also freeskate, free skating) or dance level, you are required to prepay the testing fee prior to the assessment being completed. This fee is collected by Skate Canada, and is the responsibility of the skater.

Cancellations and Refunds

• The Skate Canada fee is non-refundable.
• Full refunds will be provided within the first 2 weeks after the skating start date

FUNDING ASSISTANCE

Financial assistance is available through the following partners.

KidSport

KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under. Through a confidential application process we provide grants so they can play a season of sport. Nationally, KidSport is comprised of a network of 11 provincial/territorial KidSport chapters and 178 community KidSport chapters. Since its creation in 1993, over 530,000 kids across the country have been given the chance to play sport through KidSport grants and sport introduction programming.

Jumpstart

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is a registered charity (#1379 29 451 RR0002) dedicated to removing financial barriers so kids across Canada have the opportunity to get off the sidelines and get into the game.

Jumpstart’s core purpose is to enrich the lives of kids (from 4 to 18) in need through sports and physical activity. We assist with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation.

Jumpstart helps kids explore a range of options by supporting over 70 different activities. In addition to enabling participation in high-profile sports like hockey, soccer and swimming, Jumpstart helps kids take dance lessons and martial arts classes, play ringette or take part in several dozen other activities. What kids do is up to them; we’re here to help them do it.
